The medieval heart of Morocco
Walk the car-free lanes of Fes el-Bali, where coppersmiths, weavers and tanners still work the way their grandparents did.
Fes el-Bali is one of the largest car-free medinas in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with more than 9,000 lanes. Donkeys still carry goods through its gates, and the hammering from the coppersmiths' square carries across the rooftops.
It is also a place where you can get very lost. Our Fes guides were born in the medina, so you can spend your energy looking up at the carved cedar and zellige instead of down at a map.
